An Illinois fugitive trying to avoid capture by the Missouri State Highway Patrol was seriously injured when the police chase ended in a crash.
Lashawn D. Good, 36, of East St. Louis, Ill., was hurt Sunday when he crashed his 1998 Buick into a tractor-trailer at a rest area along Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The crash happened just before 6 p.m. at a rest stop near mile marker 110.
Good was fleeing southbound from a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper when he barreled into the rest area on the southbound side, and the tractor-trailer, at high speed, the patrol reported.
He wasn't wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his vehicle.
Good was a fugitive wanted in Illinois on felony charges, the patrol reported.
