Fuel and other bands to perform at Arena Building in Cape

Fans of modern rock will see something shimmer back when Fuel and original frontman Brett Scallions play the Arena Building in Cape Girardeau.

For the first time since 2004, Brett Scallions returns to Fuel with a new band lineup that includes Andy Andersson playing lead guitar, Brad Stewart on bass and Ken Schalk on drums. The band's Born Again Tour will stop Thursday at the Arena Building.

According to Scallions, the new lineup was not meant to replace the original members of Fuel but to keep the band alive for newer generations of fans. When asked about the lineup and where Fuel was going, Scallions said, "We're a unified force. We're locked in and exactly where we need to be."

Fuel debuted on the music scene in 1998 and rose to fame with hits like "Hemorrhage (In my Hands)," "Shimmer" and "Innocent." They will play hits from their albums "Sunburn," "Something Like Human," "Natural Selection" and 2007's "Angels and Devils." The band will play a few cover songs from '70s artists as well.

Scallions said he wants to let future generations know their music and have the Fuel experience.

The Born Again Tour, which started Aug. 30 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, also features Man Made Machine, Pale and Park Lane, all of which were chosen for their individual sound, Scallions said.

"I want to make sure fans are getting good, consistent music," he said. "It's a good package."

Beginning Thursday's night lineup, Man Made Machine and its rising hit "Victim" will take the stage. The band offers chorus-heavy songs and cites influences ranging from Pantera, Deftones and Guns 'n' Roses.

The second band, Pale, has songs about political topics. The band's newest album, "The Time of Dangerous Men," was released June 21.

To end the pre-Fuel lineup, Park Lane is a metal band with genre-bending sounds.

"Come out and break from your reality, that's what our live shows are about," Scallions said.

Doors at the Arena Building for the Born Again Tour will open at 6 p.m. Thursday. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $14; tickets at the door are $18. A limited number of VIP tickets are also available for $35.
