The Cape Girardeau County Commission will have a discussion at 10:30 a.m. Monday on the potential annexation of a portion of Fruitland into Jackson and some Fruitland community members' desire for independent incorporation. A group of Fruitland residents wanting to become an incorporated village petitioned Jackson last year for annexation. Denial by cities within two miles are a requirement of the incorporation process. Jackson has not responded and subsequent annexation and rezoning requests by quarries within the Fruitland parcel have some residents concerned that they will be involuntarily annexed and that heavy industry will dominate the area. Individuals who have an opinion on the issue are invited to attend.
