A group that's pushing for a county-wide public ambulance district will meet tonight in Jackson.

The political action group Friends of Cape Girardeau County Ambulance District will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New McKendree United Methodist Church at 1770 S. Hope St. (Highway 25 South). The meeting only has room for 150.

The political action committee has made formal presentations to city of Jackson aldermen and the Jackson Senior Board, as well as at back-to-school fairs and church meetings.

The political action committee formed to get the ambulance district issue on April's ballot but does not want to criticize the privately run Cape County Ambulance Service, which receives an annual county subsidy of $225,000.

All county commission candidates have been invited to today's meeting. Petitions will be handed out at the meeting.
