STEELE, Mo. -- Two Pemiscot County residents were injured and one died as a result of two separate accidents that occurred near Steele.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at around 11:15 a.m. Friday a southbound vehicle driven by Gary D. Ellis, 64, of Greenville, Mo., failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 164 and Route F four miles west of Steele and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Thelma C. Sanders, 59, of Steele.

Sanders sustained serious injuries and was transported by air ambulance to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn. A passenger in Sanders' vehicle, Burlee S. Sanders, 78, of Steele, was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Pemiscot County morgue.

No injuries were reported for Ellis.
