The Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Association of Southeast Missouri State University celebrates its annual Awareness Week today through Friday.
The theme for the 1993 Awareness Week is "Free Your Mind."
The activities planned are designed to increase the awareness of diverse lifestyles.
Awareness week begins with a campus march beginning in front of Academic Hall at 5:30-7 p.m. today. Following the march, the association will present "Showstoppers," a panel discussion with several gay entertainers. The discussion will take place from 7-9 p.m. in Crisp Auditorium.
On Tuesday, the Awareness Week Movie Festival will be held in the Mississippi Room of the University Center from 4-10 p.m.
The association will present an open forum and three half-hour workshops Wednesday. The workshops will be held following the 7-7:30 p.m. open forum in the Indian Room. The first workshop on "Activism" will be from 7:45-8:15 p.m. The second workshop is on "Female Safer Sex" from 8:30-9 p.m. The last workshop on "Male Safer Sex" will be from 9:15-9:45 p.m.
The association and the Student Activity Council will sponsor Warren J. Blumenfeld on Thursday. Blumenfeld will give a guest lecture on homophobia. The lecture will be held in the University Center Ballroom at 8 p.m. The cost of the lecture is $2 for the general public and $1 for students.
On April 23, the association and Cheney Hall Council will host a dance in the Cheney Lounge from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. There is no admission fee.
