Southeast Missouri State University's Center for Health and Counseling will offer local residents the opportunity to learn about the signs and symptoms of depression and manic-depression at a free screening Wednesday.
The event is being held in conjunction with National Depression Screening Day.
The program will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Center for Health and Counseling in Crisp Hall.
Last year more than 85,000 people were screened at 3,000 sites nationwide during Depression Screening Day.
Depression and manic-depression strike more than 17 million Americans each year, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Fewer than half of them seek treatment.
