Two of six hands-on Internet training classes will be held today at the A+ Lab at Central High School.
The staff of SEMissourian.com, the official web site of the Southeast Missourian newspaper, will lead the training.
Participants have pre-registered and should have received confirmation letters.
Registration is limited to 24 each session because participants will have their own computer with Internet access.
The sessions begin at 10 a.m. and again at 7 p.m.
Registration is filled June 10, but openings still remain for the morning session on June 17. That session will run from 10 a.m. to noon.
Individuals who are registered but unable to attend should contact the newspaper. A waiting list still remains for the evening sessions.
Web staff personnel will provide a short overview of the Internet and then explain both how to surf the World Wide Web and how to find information. Participants will finish the program with a Web scavenger hunt.
Cost of the hands-on training is $5, which will be collected at the door. Participants will receive a number of handouts, including more than 50 suggested surfing sites for fun and work. They will also receive a stress ball in the shape of a computer.
Those interested in attending should call Joni Adams or Peggy Scott, 335-6611 or 1-800-879-1210, as soon as possible.
Response to the training sessions has been overwhelming. Participants are attending from throughout the region -- as far away as Charleston, Bloomfield and Perryville.
A second general Internet overview lecture will also be presented June 12 at the Cape Girardeau Vocational-Technical School. The one-hour slide show/lecture will begin at 7 p.m. A question/answer session will follow the presentation.
The general session is free, but registration is requested. Persons should call 335-6611.
