Cape Girardeau Board of Education president Bob Fox was re-elected to a second term Tuesday and newcomer David Goncher joins the board.
Voters selected two people for three-year terms on the school board.
Fox, a Cape Girardeau dentist, got 5,270 votes for 44.85 percent of the vote. Goncher, a Cape Girardeau insurance salesman, earned 3,737 votes for 31.80 percent of the vote. Bill Benefield, the third candidate for two seats on the board, received 2,744 votes and 23.35 percent of the votes.
The campaign was low-keyed, with the funding proposals taking the front seat in campaign activities. Fox said he felt the other ballot issues were more important, but he's delighted to be back to watch implementation of the master plan he helped develop.
Goncher agreed that the funding issues took center stage.
"I'm ready to jump in and get to work," Goncher said. "The board has done a fantastic job. they have the public trust and it will be a pleasure working with them."
