SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. -- Three people were shot to death and another wounded Friday at four separate sites in this town near Nashville. Springfield police chief Mike Wilhoit said investigators were looking for a link between the shootings. "This is probably one of the worst days in the history of Springfield," he said. The police chief was not sure of the victims' relationships but said they probably knew each other.

"It's a small town," he said.

Springfield, about 25 miles south of Nashville, has about 14,300 residents.

The shootings began Friday morning, when the owner of the Springfield Golf Club, Steve Head, was found dead in his house.

Four minutes later, police responded to a call about three miles away and found Paul Long seriously wounded at his downtown auto-repair business. Long had been shot in the head and was listed in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

At midday, police found the body of Donny Wilks on a downtown street.

About two hours later, officers were called to a fourth scene and found Jerry Lam dead at an abandoned warehouse.

Ages of the victims were not immediately available, and police did not know the occupations of Wilks and Lam.
