A number of area residents were injured in a spate of accidents that occurred Sunday and Monday in the region.

One of the most serious accidents involved a 13-year-old Cahokia, Ill., boy who was driving a Moped that ran a stop sign and into the path of another vehicle near Sedgewickville.

Gary Garrison was airlifted to St. Francis Medical Center with serious injuries after the 6:35 p.m. accident Sunday. It occurred at Routes B and KK.

The other driver, William Winkler, 44, of Jackson was not injured.

Another serious accident injured Edgar Fiehler, 54, of Jackson Sunday. His vehicle ran off the right side of Route Y seven miles east of Jackson, struck a mailbox and highway sign and overturned on the roadway.

He was airlifted to St. Francis Medical Center with serious injuries after the 9:37 p.m. accident.

Two people from Oran were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a head-on collision in St. Francois County. Tracy Roberts, 25, was airlifted to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and Megan Orr, 4, was airlifted to Children's Hospital in St. Louis after the 4:20 p.m. accident on Route B, 1.7 miles north of Route W.

Adam Hicks, 22, of Oran had moderate injuries and was taken to Mineral Area Hospital in Farmington. Sustaining minor injuries were Sierra Sansoucie, 2, and Cody Hicks, 2, both of Oran.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, Roberts was driving southbound when a pickup driven by Monty Boyer, 29, of Bismarck failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and struck Roberts' vehicle head-on.

In another accident Sunday, Amos Pridmore, 18, of Cape Girardeau sustained moderate injuries in a single-vehicle accident Sunday in Bollinger County.

The accident occurred at 2:30 p.m. on Route UU, one-half mile north of the Cape Girardeau County line. Two passengers, Cynthia Biggs, 18, of Millersville and Kendra King, 17, of Jackson received minor injuries.

According to the patrol, Pridmore's vehicle struck a raccoon that was crossing the roadway, then struck a turtle and ran off the right shoulder and struck a tree.

In another accident, Jerod Johnson, 21, of Jackson received moderate injuries in an accident two miles north of Cape Girardeau Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred on County Road 620 at 3:30 p.m.

According to the patrol, Johnson's vehicle ran off the right shoulder, struck some utility poles and came to rest in the roadway.
