Four men in Florida terrorist plot sentenced to prison

MIAMI -- Four Miami men described as soldiers in a plot to destroy Chicago's Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices have received sentences far shorter than prosecutors sought.

U.S. District Judge Joan Lenard imposed sentences less than 10 years. Prosecutors had sought between 30 and 50 years.

Lenard said the men did not deserve lengthy sentences because they were followers of ringleader Narseal Batiste, who will be sentenced Friday. The plots never got past the discussion stage.

Lenard on Thursday sentenced 30-year-old Patrick Abraham to more than nine years and 34-year-old Stanley Phanor to eight years. Two other men got shorter sentences Wednesday.

Batiste testified he faked terrorism to scam $50,000 out of an FBI informant posing as an al-Qaida operative.
