Four Cape Girardeau men were arrested for stealing firearms and ammunition in a burglary last week, the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department said. The four had stolen seven guns and a quantity of ammunition from a rural Cape Girardeau residence last Friday, Lt. David James said."They were just sitting around and one of them said he knew where they could get some guns," James said.
Arrested were Wesley Bartels, 25; Matthew Lyeria, 20; Jeremy Aden, 20; and Ramsey Davis, 18. Bartels was charged with one count of second degree burglary and felony stealing. The other three were each charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of stealing. Bonds were set at $10,000 for each of the men.
The burglary took place between 9 and 10 p.m. on Friday, but was not reported until Saturday morning, James said. The Sheriff's Department made arrests on Monday, he said.
The four were questioned whether they had planned to sell the guns for narcotics, and answered no, James said. The four told investigators that they were familiar with the victim from a parent's workplace and decided to steal the guns.
