Four killed in KC area accidents over 24 hours

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Four people were killed in traffic accidents Thursday and early Friday, including a bicyclist who was struck by a pickup that was being pursued by police.

Toni Sena, 46, was riding her bike with two other people when she was struck by the pickup Thursday.

"She came up on the windshield, then she went back down onto the road and he just ran her over," said Peter Krivena of Prairie Village, Kan., who was driving with his family when he saw the impact.

"It was that terrible."

The police chase started after the pickup driver allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend's suitor in nearby Overland Park, Kan. The driver led multiple police departments on a chase that weaved back and forth across the state line.

Sena was taken to a hospital with severe injuries to her legs and back, police said. She died shortly after arrival.

The suspect was taken into custody, but no charges had been filed Friday afternoon. The condition of the man hit by the truck earlier was not known.

In an unrelated incident about 2:20 a.m. Friday, a 56-year-old man was struck by at least one car on an Interstate 70 exit ramp in Kansas City. The victim's body was found by another pedestrian, said Officer Darin Snapp. The man's name was being withheld while family was notified.

Snapp said it appeared the man had been hit more than once and that no drivers stopped to report the accident.

Two people were killed about 1 a.m. Friday when the motorcycle they were on ran off Missouri 169 near the downtown airport. Snapp said an off-duty police officer saw the motorcycle traveling at more than 100 mph before it hit a highway guardrail.

The victims were identified as Robert Morehead, 26, of Gladstone, and Stephanie Burke, 19, of Kansas City. Snapp said the two were declared dead at the scene.
