Three vehicles were involved in an accident at 11:15 a.m. Monday on U.S. 61, 3.5 miles south of Sikeston.

Five people were injured, with one taken from the scene by helicopter and the other four transported via ambulance.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred as a northbound vehicle driven by Teyanna R. Lewis, 18, of Matthews, Mo., crossed the centerline and struck two southbound vehicles, driven by Charles W. Rowe, 57, of Howardville, Mo.; and Martha A. Linley, 43, of New Madrid, Mo., head on. Rowe sustained serious injuries and was transported via air helicopter to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Linley and Lewis, who suffered moderate injuries, were transported there by ambulance. Also involved in the accident were Linley's passengers, Sammie E. Garrett, 65, of Marston, Mo., who received moderate injuries; and Kathleen E. Scering, 44, of New Madrid, who had minor injuries. Both were transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
