Four people received serious injuries Sunday afternoon in a head-on collision at the intersection of Illinois Routes 3 and 146 near McClure.
The Illinois State Police said the driver of a van, David Smith, attempted to make a left turn and crossed into the path of a four-wheel drive vehicle at about 3:30 p.m. Smith didn't realize the traffic on Route 3 doesn't stop at the intersection, police said.
Smith, 45, and his daughter, Becky Smith, 13, both of Princeton Ky., were transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Becky Smith had to be freed from the wreckage by an extrication crew from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department. She was flown by Air Evac helicopter to the medical center.
The driver of the four-wheel-drive, Bradley Schaefer, 22, of De Soto also was transported to St. Francis Medical Center. A passenger in the Schaefer vehicle, Mark Sweazea, 23, also of De Soto, was transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
