ALEXANDER COUNTY, Ill. -- Four Wisconsin people were injured in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at 2:04 a.m. Sunday on southbound Interstate 57.
A vehicle carrying four people from Milwaukee was struck from behind, causing it to spin around and hit a concrete guardrail, said the Illinois State Police.
The driver, Clarence D. Smith, 35, and two passengers received minor injuries and were treated at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Another passenger, Joanne James, 37, also was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital with moderate injuries. All were released.
The driver of the second vehicle is unknown and left the scene of the accident. Witnesses say it was a blue Buick. Anyone with information can call the Illinois State Police at 618-845-3737.
