A two-car accident on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County early Sunday morning claimed the lives of four people and injured three others. A two-car accident on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County early Sunday morning claimed the lives of four people and injured three others.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 5:40 a.m. when a 2000 Cadillac Escalade driven by Leon Cash, 57, of Rockford, Ill., left the northbound lane and crossed the median, striking a southbound 2002 GMC Yukon driven by Howard M. Gilliland, 60, of Memphis, Tenn.

Both drivers, along with two passengers in the Yukon, Felecia R. Reeves-Gilliland and Vontina A. Gilliland, also of Memphis, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Pemiscot County Coroner. A passenger in the Escalade, Maxine Cash, was taken by helicopter to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis with serious injuries. Two children from the Yukon were also taken to Lebonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis with moderate injuries.
