Three Scott City residents and one Cape Girardeau resident were arrested on suspicion of burglary and assault early Saturday morning after Cape Girardeau police were called twice to the 600 block of South Henderson Avenue.
Homeowners at 646 S. Henderson Ave. reported their residence was broken into.
"Several subjects, between 10 and 15 people, were fighting in the street. When officers got there the crowd had dispersed," said Cpl. Adam Glueck, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
At 3:15 a.m., about an hour after officers first arrived on scene at South Henderson Avenue, they were called back because several of the same suspects returned with baseball bats to continue the fight.
"Witnesses identified the subjects as the same ones who had broken into their house," Glueck said.
Ryan Cook, 22, Ponciano Lupe Garcia, 24, both of Scott City, and Jose Alberto Cruz, 18, Cape Girardeau, were charged with first-degree burglary. Bond was set at $20,000 for each offender.
Cook reportedly posted bond Sunday.
Jo Anne Barajas, 32, was charged with second-degree assault for allegedly striking a person over the head with a baseball bat and resisting detention. She is also being held on a $20,000 bond.
Glueck said officers ordered Barajas to lay on the ground numerous times and, after she refused, officers physically forced her to the ground.
One juvenile was also arrested. Glueck said the juvenile attempted to strike a police officer when they forced Barajas to the ground.
