A Sikeston woman was among four people injured Monday in two separate accidents in Southern Illinois.

Illinois State Police said Karen Riley, 19, of Sikeston, was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, Ill., with major injuries after the pickup truck she was a passenger in collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the pickup, Joshua McClellan, 17, of Grand Chain, also was taken to Massac Memorial with major injuries, police said.

McClellan's vehicle was following another northbound on Route 37 about one-half mile north of Grand Chain when the driver of the lead vehicle, Cynthia Nichols, 33, of Grand Chain, slowed her car to make a turn into a driveway. McClellan's truck struck Nichols' car in the rear, police said.

Nichols was treated for minor injuries at Massac Memorial and released. McClellan was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

In an accident in Union County, Billy Tellor, 21, of Anna, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau with major injuries after he lost control of a vehicle on a gravel road. The car struck an embankment and overturned, police said.

The accident occurred on Ash Street, about one-fourth mile east of Highway 51 in Dongola.
