"We've had several telephone calls of concern since the announcement recently that a gaming group had taken an option on the property," said the spokesman, David Murphy, executive director of the foundation. "We have not abandoned our efforts of preserving and restoring the college as a national historical museum and regional culture center."

Becky Richey, president of the foundation, said: "We have been apprised of what has been proposed by the individual gaming companies and have reserved any statement we might have in deference to the task that lies before the Cape Girardeau City Council. We trust that the members of the city council will make the proper decision on what will affect life in this region for generations to come."
