KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A former Independence police officer was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison Wednesday, for conspiring to rob two women he thought were drug-money couriers.
The women were actually undercover FBI agents taking part in a sting operation against the former officer, Brian C. McGarr.
McGarr, 42, pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge on April 26.
His brother, Scott McGarr, pleaded guilty to the same charge a day later.
He has not been sentenced.
The brothers were arrested after an FBI sting operation, following an investigation into allegations that Brian McGarr was using his position to identify drug dealers to rob.
