NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A former teacher is charged with possessing child pornography.
Online court records show a warrant was issued Tuesday charging Amy R. Walker, 36, of Lilbourn, Missouri, with felony possession of child pornography.
In a probable-cause statement filed by New Madrid County Sheriff deputy Danny J. Ware, the investigation began after the mother of a student informed Sheriff Terry Stevens her son had received nude pictures from Walker, who was a teacher at the New Madrid County Central Middle School.
Ware said the pictures were discovered by the student's girlfriend while looking through his phone.
Ware stated he interviewed Walker about the allegations and she admitted to sending three nude pictures of herself. "Amy R. Walker stated the pictures were unsolicited," Ware wrote in the probable-cause statement.
In interviewing the student, he told the officer he started receiving Instagram messages from Walker about general things, then the conversations turned "flirty." After he received the three photos from Walker, the student stated he also sent an explicit photo.
New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson filed the possession of child pornography charge Monday. Bond was set Tuesday at $15,000, and Walker was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Walker resigned from her teaching position last week.
