JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Former Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes files as a candidate for the congressional seat held by four-term Republican Sam Graves.
Barnes filed official paperwork Tuesday at the Missouri Secretary of State's Office, nearly 10 months after announcing her candidacy. The Democrat is a St. Joseph native who served two terms as Kansas City's mayor.
The 6th Congressional District comprises 26 counties in northwest and north-central Missouri, including northern sections of Kansas City and eastern Jackson County.
The Barnes campaign said it has raised more than $1 million since she announced her candidacy. Campaign reports released Jan. 31 showed Graves with more than $1 million, not including $500,000 raised the next day at a fundraiser attended by President Bush.
