Dr. Dorothy C. Hardy, adjutant professor of English at the University of North Alabama at Florence, was honored Friday in Montgomery, Ala., as one of Alabama state universities' "alumni of distinction."
The former Southeast Missouri State University educator was selected for her contributions to disadvantaged youths and at-risk students for over 25 years.
She was among the first blacks hired by the University of Cincinnati and was the first black administrator to have a full staff at Southeast.
She was director of student development services from 1984 through 1989. She then worked at the Cape Girardeau Area Vocational-Technical School from 1991 to 1995 as a counselor and coordinator of the Single Parent program.
She resides in Florence.
