Haley Jean Yavuz, 33, of St. Louis had her preliminary hearing in a forgery case Friday in Jackson. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for noon Nov. 2.
Yavuz is charged with forgery, but the probable-cause complaint filed by Cape Girardeau police detective Jeff Lucas states he believed she was guilty of identity theft as well.
On June 27, Yavuz allegedly went to Southeast Hospital to have a medical procedure completed and gave identifying information for Vanessa Rice without consent from Rice.
"During the hospital visit, Yavuz signed numerous forms with the name of Vanessa Rice and presented signatures as the original signature of Vanessa Rice," Lucas wrote. "While using the stolen identity of Rice, Yavuz accumulated $29,358 in bills."
Yavuz admitted to a Cape Girardeau police officer she had found the information of Rice on a laptop her boyfriend had bought, Lucas wrote in a report. Rice reported the laptop stolen in 2012.
