The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at the band shell on Route D in Jackson City Park. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating.
Special guest will be The Shade Tree Folk Company, which includes Terry Wright, Jim Hickam, David Giles and Stephanie Fridley. The group made its first appearance with the municipal band in the late 1990s. A recent composition by Fridley about the space shuttle Columbia is included in the lineup. The group is noted for its guitar playing and folk singing.
The band's portion of the concert includes the following marches: "St. James Infirmary," "Manhattan Beach" and "Days of Glory." The euphonium section will be featured on J.J. Richards," "Triad." The overture will be Robert W. Smith's "Into the Storm." Other titles are "Palm Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin, Glenn Osser's "Beguine Festival" and "Smoke on the Water."
