The city of Cape Girardeau has suspended its Wednesday special collection service of compost bags, bundled limbs and brush until further notice.

Service to the compost drop-off containers at the recycling center facility, 2007 Southern Expressway, also is suspended.

The holding area for collected compost, limbs and brush remains inaccessible because of Mississippi River flooding, according to a news release from the city. Once the river drops below flood stage and the holding area is available, special collections and drop-offs may resume.

Other options are available for brush and compost. The transfer station in the 2500 block of South Sprigg Street will accept limbs or brush for $54.75 per ton, plus the weekly fuel surcharge rate. Some yard waste may be burned, according to the city's open burning regulations. Residents are encouraged to check with the fire department before burning yard waste. More information on burning regulations is available at cityofcape.org/fire or by calling 339-6330.
