Flooding in the Cape Girardeau's compost holding area has caused city officials to temporarily suspend its yard waste program, the city has announced on its website. The public works department is not able to accept any compost items at this time. The containers at the city's Recycling Center at 2007 Southern Expressway have been removed temporarily, and curbside scheduled pickup has ceased. The city will begin compost collection as soon as the floodwaters recede enough for workers to get to the holding area.
