Flight is diverted due to unruly passenger

CHICAGO -- Authorities in St. Louis are questioning a 34-year-old Illinois man after he allegedly tried to open a plane door during a flight from Houston to Chicago and caused the crew to divert the flight to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

Continental Airlines spokeswoman Julie King said Flight No. 546 landed Sunday around 1:30 p.m. and was grounded for about an hour.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford confirms an "unruly" passenger tried to open the door and authorities in St. Louis took him into custody.

Lambert spokesman Jeff Lea says the man got up 20 minutes after takeoff and said he had to get off the plane.

Lea says airport police and the FBI are questioning the man.

No charges have been filed.
