Hundreds of people are expected to flock into downtown Cape Girardeau Sunday for the annual "Outdoor Tailgate Flea Market," to be held on the Main Street parking lot across from Hutson's Furniture.

More than 100 dealers will display items for sale.

"This is the biggest year yet," said Evelyn Boardman, owner of Madder Rose Antiques Mall, which is sponsoring the day-long market. "We had to turn down about 50 requests for space."

Each of the 108 dealers who reserved space will have one car's parking space. They can sell from vehicles, or set up a table behind the vehicle.

"We expect a good variety of items -- antiques, books, magazines, glass, comic books, toys, and much more," said Boardman.

Others stalls will include vintage clothing, movie memorabilia, and collectible games.

The markets get under way about 7 a.m.

Another big weekend attraction in downtown Cape Girardeau is the Nina, a replica of Christopher Columbus' ship, which is docked at Riverfront Park along the Mississippi River.

The Nina also visited two years ago. School tours are conducted during the day, and other groups can visit the boat during the evenings and weekend. The Nina will be here through Oct. 11.

Another weekend event is Family Weekend at Southeast Missouri State University. The Indians will host Eastern Kentucky for a 6 p.m. football game. Following the game, The Beach Boys will appear in concert at Houck Stadium.

The Beach Boys Band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Among the band's hits are "Surfin' USA," "Little Deuce Coupe," "Surfer Girl," "Fun, Fun, Fun", "Help Me Rhonda," "I Get Around" and "California Girls."
