FLAT RIVER -- Grand prize in the recent Missouri Community Betterment competition went to Flat River.
Flat River was selected from among the first-place winners in eight community population categories and one neighborhood category.
Among the first-place winners in the eight community categories were Steelville and Perryville.
During the conference's annual awards banquet at Columbia, Gov. Mel Carnahan presented Governor's Adult Leadership awards to 10 community betterment leaders. Among recipients were Judy Dona of Dexter and John Clark of Flat River.
Carnahan presented Youth Leadership awards to five young people, including Nicole Wadlington of Scott City. Scott City placed for having one of the top MCB youth organizations.
