Five Cape Girardeau area men are among the members of the Missouri Highway Patrol's 66th recruit graduating class.
The new troopers were commissioned Feb. 4 in ceremonies held in Jefferson City. They reported to their duty assignments Feb. 14.
The five newly-commissioned troopers from the Cape area are:
-- Trooper David B. Haggett of Cape Girardeau
-- Trooper Philip E. Gregory of Cape Girardeau
-- Trooper Mark A. Winder of Jackson
-- Trooper Lee Gerler of Gordonville
-- Trooper Henry W. Moore of Sikeston
Haggett, 27, is a native of Silva, in Wayne County.
Prior to his appointment to the patrol on Aug. 1, 1993, Haggett worked five years in the patrol division of the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
He went to work for the police department in 1988, after graduating from Southeast Missouri State University with bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.
Haggett is married to the former Pamela Craig. They are the parents of a child born Jan. 22, 1994.
Haggett is assigned to Troop F, (Camden and Miller counties) and resides in Camdenton.
Gregory, 27, is a native of Fredericktown, and a graduate of Fredericktown High School. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1988, where he worked first in the patrol division of the Cape Girardeau Police Department, and later, in the department's criminal investigations department.
Gregory is married to the former Debbie Dannemueller of Chaffee.
Gregory is assigned to Troop C, (Stoddard County) and resides in Dexter.
Winder, 25, is a native of Jackson, and a 1986 graduate of Jackson High School. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a major in accounting.
Prior to his appointment to the highway patrol, Winder was an accountant with Malone and Hyde of Sikeston.
Winder is engaged to Kelly Griffith of Scott City, who is also a senior at Southeast Missouri State University.
Winder is assigned to Troop C, (St. Charles County) and will reside in St. Charles.
Gerler, 23, is a native of Cape Girardeau, and had lived 12 years in Cape Girardeau. He is a 1989 graduate of Jackson High School.
He attended Southeast Missouri State University for four years, and is completing the requirements for his bachelors degree in criminal justice.
Prior to his appointment to the patrol, Gerler worked part-time at Sander's Nursery in Gordonville.
He is married to the former Becky Naeger of Olive Branch.
Gerler is assigned to Troop E, (Iron County) and will reside in Pilot Knob.
Moore, 26, is a native of Sikeston. He graduated from Delta C-7 High School, near Kennett, in 1986.
Moore attended Arkansas State University in Jonesboro for two years, prior to his appointment to the patrol.
He was a U.S. Army military police officer from 1988 to 1992.
Moore is married to the former Sherri Wemberley of Gobler.
Moore is assigned to Troop C (Jefferson County) and resides in Arnold.
