CHAFFEE -- Five people were injured in two separate accidents early Sunday on Scott County roads.
Three Chaffee residents were injured when Robert Redfern, 61, lost control of the car he was driving on ice-covered pavement, said a spokesman for the Missouri Highway Patrol. The car crossed the center line and struck a vehicle, driven by Robert Glueck, 46.
A passenger in Redfern's car, Shirley Howard, 48, received moderate injuries, the patrol said. Glueck and his wife, Phyllis Glueck, 41, also received moderate injuries. All were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, treated and released, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The accident occurred along Route 77 about a mile and a half north of Chaffee at 7 a.m., the patrol spokesman said.
A second one-car accident along Route E, two miles east of Benton, occurred at 9:10 a.m. and injured two people.
Huey Daniel, 59, of Benton, lost control of the vehicle he was driving, ran off the road and struck an embankment, the patrol said.
Suffering minor injuries were passengers Barbara Daniel, 55, of Benton, and Daniele Milam, 8, of Cape Girardeau. Daniel was taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, where a hospital spokesperson said she was in stable condition. The patrol said Milam was taken to a local hospital, but there was no record of her being treated at either St. Francis or Southeast Missouri Hospital, according to hospital spokesmen.
Huey Daniel was not injured in the accident, the patrol said.
