Fitness program lands governor's award for area chamber

Gov. Bob Holden awarded the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Health and Human Services Committee with the Governor's Fitness and Health Leadership Award in recognition of outstanding achievement in advancing physical fitness and health in Missouri.

Last year's five-month long Shape Up Cape program had more than 300 participants on more than 30 teams competing in three different divisions. Everyone improved their exercise habits, the program raised awareness of personal fitness and how fit employees help businesses maintain fitness, resulting in less time lost to illness.

The 2003 Shape Up Cape program is slated to run May 17 through Sept. 27.
