WAPPAPELLO -- The "Annual Fish Shelter Day," will be held here Jan. 26.
"This event was originally scheduled Jan. 12," said Michael McClendon, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. "The date had to be postponed due to the high lake levels."
Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 26 at Chaonia and Holliday Landings.
"The volunteers will take used Christmas trees into the lake and submerge them at existing fish shelter locations," said McClendon.
There are currently 18 fish shelters at Wappapello Lake. The locations are marked with a numbered buoy that corresponds to a fish shelter guide, which will be available in the near future.
The fish shelters provide needed cover for many fish species at Wappapello Lake.
"The shelters provide great structure for fish to congregate, feed and avoid predators," said McClendon.
