A California communications company has filed an application seeking Federal Communications Commission approval for a low-power television-transmission tower in Cape Girardeau.

MS Communications of Los Angeles filed the request for a permit to construct the tower. It was filed through the law firm of Moir and Hardman of Washington.

Attorney Kenneth E. Hardman said, "This would allow MS Communications to provide TV service to Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area."

Hardman said the request is the initial phase of establishing service, and approval doesn't necessarily mean service would be established here.

Low-power transmission was created to fit a station into a spectrum for a smaller coverage area.

MS' requests FCC consent for reassignment of a construction permit issued last month to Brewer Family Trust of Canoga Park, Calif., as channel 65, call sign K65GP.
