FIRM GETS CONTRACT TO PREPARE JACKSON CITY HALL

JACKSON -- Although there are too many variables involved to pinpoint a date, Jackson City Administrator Steve Wilson said Jackson's city employees may be moved to the new city hall between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The city will move into the downtown Boatmen's Bank building. The bank is going to a newly constructed building.

Bad weather and other factors have delayed the switch for some time, forcing Boatmen's to continue renewing the lease on their building, which the city now owns.

Penzel Construction Co. was awarded the bid to remodel the bank building at the Jackson Board of Aldermen's meeting Monday night. Penzel had the low bid of $250,085, beating Landgraf Construction's $294,900 estimate. Landgraf was the only other bidder, although two other companies picked up bid specifications.

In other action, the board granted the Missouri Department of Natural Resources onto the city's landfill to oversee the dump's closure. The landfill is in the process of being closed.

Allied Waste Inc., which holds the city's solid-waste-disposal contract, takes Jackson's trash to a transfer station in Cape Girardeau. It later goes to Lemmons Landfill between Bloomfield and Dexter.

Allied has applied for a transfer station permit. The transfer station would be constructed in Jackson Industrial Park near the waste-water plant.

Wilson said there was a possibility of the city's landfill being reopened later for construction and demolition waste or as a single-purpose landfill.

Approved the semi-annual financial statement ending June 30, 1995, and publish in the local newspaper.

Changed the date of the annual city Christmas party to Dec. 9, 1995.

Approved a contractual agreement with Penzel Construction Inc. for the renovation of the new Jackson City Hall building.

Street Committee

Approved the final plat of Haynes Estate No. 2.

Approved the final plat of W.J. Development Subdivision.

Renamed Ash Street in Running Ridge First Addition and Canterbury Estates Subdivision to Alpine Drive.

Instructed city attorney to review and prepare report for the board concerning the NFPA National Fire Code.

Instructed city attorney to prepare ordinance amending parking-prohibited schedule to include a no-parking zone along portions of South Missouri Street, North High Street and East Mary Street.

Authorized additional funding in the amount of $2,829 for upgrading of the walking trail in Jackson City Park as per recommendation of the public works director and Apex Paving Co. proposal dated July 10.

Authorized additional funding under the ASA Asphalt contract for upgrading of the lake trail in city park.
