ST. LOUIS -- Firefighters are investigating widespread reports of smoke and haze in the St. Louis area.
The fire department tweeted Monday night it was looking into the reports but had not located a source.
Capt. Garon Mosby said it is possible winds from the south were carrying the smell from wildfire and burns. He said people should call the fire department if they smell smoke.
Mark Britt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, tells the newspaper several counties to the southwest of St. Louis had controlled burns, but he couldn't be sure any of those was the cause.
