Two Cape Girardeau firefighters were injured in a small blaze in a residential garage at 1120 Bertling.
Lt. Bob Thompson said firefighters responded to the fire at 6:28 a.m. Friday and the fire was under control within five minutes.
Firefighter Jeff Banken was injured when the garage door fell on him and firefighter Dean Lynn suffered a fractured nose when a board over the garage door hit him in the face. Both were treated and released at a Cape Girardeau hospital.
Thompson said the fire was accidental and contained to one corner of the garage. It was extinguished with less than 50 gallons of water.
The property is owned by Ken and Viola Nicholson. A passerby saw the fire, knocked on their door and alerted them.
Firefighters remained on the scene until 8:20 a.m.
