ELLISVILLE, Mo. -- A fire that damaged an assisted-living center in this St. Louis suburb killed one resident and injured at least three others. About 80 other residents were helped to safety.
The dead woman, whose name had not been released Sunday afternoon, was found inside the Autumn View Gardens center after firefighters controlled the four-alarm fire that broke out shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.
The three injured patients were hospitalized Sunday.
The fire's cause was not immediately known. St. Louis County Police Sgt. Bob Frohn said the county's bomb and arson squad was investigating.
Several witnesses at a nearby miniature golf course saw the flames and ran into the burning building, helping staff members evacuated more than 80 residents.
