At 1:46 p.m. Sunday, the New Hamburg-Benton-Commerce Rural Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire in a rural area of Scott County.
The fire took place at a trailer on Camelot Drive, off of Highway PP just outside Kelso, Missouri, NBC fire chief Shawna Schmitt said.
The Scott City Fire Department and a North Scott County ambulance responded as mutual aid to the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The owner of the trailer said the fire started with a hot water heater, Schmitt said. He tried to battle the blaze but was unsuccessful. The structure was considered a total loss.
When responders first approached, the home there was concern about explosions going off within the home, Schmitt said there was ammunition in the back bedroom of the trailer but it was not detrimental to extinguishing the fire.
NBC firefighters stayed on scene until about 5:30 p.m.
