Along with a new assistant fire chief, the Cape Girardeau Fire Department announced several promotions for November.
Battalion Chief Mark Hasheider officially assumed the duties of assistant fire chief on Nov. 4, taking the place of Max Jauch, who retired after a 30-year career in firefighting.
Hasheider started with the fire department in 1985.
Capt. Mike Morgan is being promoted to battalion chief and fire marshal. Morgan has been with the department since 1987. Battalion Chief Steve Niswonger, who has been serving as fire marshal, is being reassigned as shift commander.
Master firefighter Sam Welker is being promoted to captain after 23 years with the department. In the near future, he will take the position of fire inspector and will temporarily be utilized as a company officer.
Firefighter Mike Rodgers is being promoted to master firefighter. He has been with the department since 1986.
