A fire at a Cape Girardeau apartment building Saturday morning is still under investigation.
At 12:58 a.m., Cape Girardeau Police responded to a report of a fire in an apartment at 807 N. Sprigg St. to find heavy smoke coming out of Apartment 3 in the three-story building, according to Steve Niswonger, battalion chief.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room where it started within a few minutes, he said. The rest of the apartment had moderate damage from smoke and heat. The damage to the building and its contests is estimated at $10,000.
