GORDONVILLE -- An electrical fire caused heavy smoke and water damage to a Cape Girardeau County residence Monday morning.

Gordonville Fire Chief Roger English said the Mark Carnell residence on County Road 215 sustained fire damage to the master bedroom and smoke and water damage throughout.

"When we arrived there was a lot of smoke coming from the attic area," stated English. "It appears that the fire started near the bed."

A total of seven trucks and 18 firefighters from the Gordonville and Delta fire districts responded to the scene.

"Nobody was home when the fire started," said Carnell. "The neighbors called me at work and told me about it."
