A Monday fire has temporarily shut down a Jackson restaurant.
Jackson fire Capt. Randy Davis said Saturday the department received a call at about 11:30 a.m. Monday about a fire at the Sonic Drive-In, 530 S. Hope St.
By the time first responders arrived, the building was filled with heavy, black smoke, Davis said.
Firefighters inside said there were some areas of the ceiling that had caught fire in the kitchen, where the fire had started and was contained, he said.
It took about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire, Davis said. Firefighters stayed for about an hour.
No cost estimate for damage is available, he said, but other than fire damage around the kitchen's grill and ceiling, other damage consisted of smoke, water and heat.
Heat caused the most damage, he said, melting cooking equipment gauges and plastic cups.
No one was hurt.
Davis said the store manager told officials the restaurant may reopen in June.
