Fire damages home in Cape Girardeau

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a small house fire Friday in Cape Girardeau.

At 3:36 p.m. Friday, firefighters responded to 923 N. Frederick St. to a report of a furnace that had caught fire.

Battalion fire chief Fred Vincel stated in the report upon firefighters' arrival, the fire had been extinguished by a resident, but it had spread to the floor and the structure itself.

The one-story home sustained minor damage, and no firefighters or residents were injured.
