Firefighters have determined the fire Sunday that destroyed the banquet hall of Celebrations Restaurant and Bar in Cape Girardeau caused $50,000 in damage.

Owners James and Pat Allen said Sunday the only things in that building were tables and chairs, along with a furnace and hot water heater.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department received assistance from Jackson and Scott City firefighters who helped contain the fire within about 20 minutes, according to a department report.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, according to the report.

The state fire marshal has been called, and Cape Girardeau fire department investigators are examining the scene as well. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
