A fire around a printing press at M&W Packaging on Tuesday caused minimal damage and no injuries, a company spokesman said.
The fire, which started about 11:30 a.m., was quickly brought under control by the company's fire brigade and a fire suspression system within the press itself, said Jeff Perry, chief financial officer.
The fire brigade also doused the press with water, he said.
As a precaution, workers in the printing department, which is located in a separate building from other departments, were evacuated.
The press sustained minor damage, and will be repaired, Perry said.
A number of people on each shift have firefighter training, and some employees are volunteers with county fire districts, Perry said.
"We had called the East County fire department as a matter of course," he said.
Although the exact cause of the fire is unknown, Perry said it seemed that it was contained in ductwork above the press. He said the cause would be investigated.
