A former Cape Girardean recently won first place in the 1992 Las Vegas Indoor Archery Shoot, billed as the world's largest indoor archery tournament.
Mike Kerr, who won many local and state archery tournaments as a youth in Cape Girardeau, was top winner in the free style limited division at the recent Las Vegas event, held at the Tropicana Sports Complex.
More than 1,400 archers were entered in the tournament, with 64 in Kerr's event.
The win was worth more than $4,000 to Kerr, works for PSE Archery, headquartered in Tucson, Ariz.
He received $2,000 for winning the his event, and another $2,400 from various manufacturers. Kerr has been competing as a professional five years.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Kerr of Cape Girardeau, who was in Las Vegas the week of the tournament.

WAPPAPELLO Rip-rap work along the 550 feet of shoreline at the Greenville Campground has been completed.
"More than 16,000 tons of rip-rap was placed along the shore near the Union cemetery," said Corps spokesman Michael McClendon. "The work was done in order to prevent further shoreline erosion."

WAPPAPELLO Fish Shelter Day was held at Lake Wappapello recently. Volunteers met to distribute the Christmas Tree shelters on the lake.
Meanwhile, fishing has been fair in Lake Wappapello. The report is that crappie fishing is fair using black and chartreuse jigs and bass fishing has been pretty good for anglers using pig-n-jigs and crank bait.

JEFFERSON CITY The Conservation Commission will hold its monthly meeting at 9 a.m. March 13 at Lodge of Four Seasons on Lake Road HH, Lake Ozark.
Commission meetings are open to the public.
